Scientific Name: Chlorocebus pygerythrus
This species is distributed from the Ethiopian Rift Valley and southern Somalia in the north, through the eastern lowlands of Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and all provinces of South Africa . It has also been recorded from the islands of Pemba and Mafia, Tanzania, and the Manda Islands, Lamu Archipelago, of northern Kenya. It is sympatric with Papio spp and Erythrocebus patas (Isbell et al., 1998; Enstam & Isbell, 2002).
Over this wide range it is very patchily distributed. It is regarded as a pest in many parts of its range and is therefore threatened by farmers in cultivated land.
